Miles – Roma Presbyterian Church Mission Statement
INTRODUCTION
This Mission Statement of the Miles-Roma Presbyterian Church is our considered understanding of what God desires for the church in its ministry. It is driven by the teachings of the Bible and is always subject to the authority of the Bible. We believe the Bible in its entirety is God’s word and that the Bible is the ultimate rule for life and faith. We must hold fast to the teachings passed on to us in the scriptures. (2 Thess. 2:15)
OUR MISSION IS TO BE
“Christ’s body, glorifying God, making followers of Jesus together.”
- The Body of Christ Glorifying God
We believe the church is the body of Christ made up of all God’s people from everywhere and every time, through which God is glorified. (Eph. 3:21) The Miles-Roma Presbyterian Church is a visible part of Christ’s body, and our mission is to glorify God in the world. We do that by acting as the body of Christ, continually following Jesus to put off the old self and grow more like him. (Eph. 4:4-6, 22-24) - Making Disciples
We believe the scriptures make it clear that each member of Christ’s body, the church, is an instrument through whom God makes his grace known. Matthew 28:19-20 speaks specifically about making disciples. We believe that involves, (a.) Christians urging each other on in their following of Jesus to maturity, as well as (b.) actively seeking to make Jesus followers of those who are not yet Christians.
a. Our mission is to grow together as brothers and sisters in Christ, who is the head of the church. We do this by serving together, urging each other on in faith, that we might heed the call of God on our lives to obey him and reach maturity. (Eph. 4:11-16)
b. Our mission is also, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to proclaim the gospel to those not yet Christians. (Acts 1:8) In this we recognize our responsibility as those who have received the gospel by faith to proclaim it in word and deed, trusting God to work in the lives of others as he sees fit.
